It can be a struggle figuring out what to put in a diaper bag. The task may feel impossible! Let me help you by telling you what my diaper bag essentials are for three kids.

When my first son was born, I felt like I needed to take everything but the kitchen sink with me EVERYWHERE! Luckily, after six years and three kids later, I realized that is not the case.

Finding the perfect diaper bag

One of the things us moms dream about when we’re pregnant is the perfect diaper bag. It has to be stylish yet functional.

I personally always gravitated toward the bags that looked like a really pretty purse. You wouldn’t even know that it was a diaper bag!

My suggestion, find what works best for you and your lifestyle. Like I said, there are SO many to choose from and you can get one from almost anywhere, Amazon, Walmart, Target (my personal favorite).

I asked where my friends got their diaper bags from on my Facebook page when I was pregnant with E, and I got so many responses so you could always try that too!

I did this again just for you and will share some of the diaper bags they loved best at the bottom of the page…so keep reading!

Gather your essentials

Now that you have your perfect diaper bag, now comes the fun part…putting the things you and your kids need into it! This is also the perfect time to clean out your other one and start fresh.

Gather up all of the things that you think you need for every outing. Do a sort of inventory asking yourself “Do we really need to bring 4 binkies, 10 toys, and 3 hats with us everywhere?”.

Chances are you will find that you can put half, if not less, of those items into your diaper bag.

There will always be times that you will need to grab more things with you for special occasions, but for this case, remember to bring only what you would need to run an errand or go to an appointment.

This also makes it so much easier when you have to remember to grab extra snacks or things for soccer practice or something. You wont ever forget the essentials!

Don’t forget the snacks!

I think the most important thing to remember is that you are that tiny persons snack holder!!

If you haven’t seen that meme floating around, it is hilarious and so true!

I always make sure to either grab snacks on the way out the door and throw them in my diaper bag or to stock up after every outing. Either way, this is probably THE MOST IMPORTANT item in your bag.

The kids are always hungry! You could get hungry yourself and no one wants to see a hangry mama bear with her hangry cubs roaming around.

So not only will it save you from the kids tantrums but it will also save you money…win, win.

I have fallen into that trap of everyone being hungry running errands and stopping for some snacks to hold them until lunch. It seems small at the time but those things add up!

My diaper bag essentials

Okay, now that we got those few tips out of the way, here are my own diaper bag essentials. Now yours will look different from mine, but my kids are past the baby stage so we need less than when the boys were little.
